  1. Prepare oat flour: place the rolled oats in a small blender or food processor and pulse until they become a fine flour (about 20–30 seconds). Measure out 60 g of the resulting oat flour.
  2. Prepare the pear: peel, core and grate or finely chop the pear (120 g). If large pieces remain, pulse briefly so pieces are soft and easy to gum.
  3. Mix batter: in a bowl, combine the oat flour and grated pear. Crack in the egg (about 50 g) and stir until you have a thick, spoonable batter. If it seems too dry, add a teaspoon (5–10 ml) of water or breastmilk to loosen it slightly.
  4. Heat the pan: warm a non-stick frying pan over low–medium heat and add a small smear of olive oil (about 5 g). Wipe the oil to an even thin coating so the pancakes don’t stick.
  5. Cook pancakes: spoon small rounds (about 1 tbsp each) into the pan and gently flatten to make short, thick oval “pancake fingers” easy for little hands to grasp. Cook for 2–3 minutes until edges look set and the underside is light golden, then carefully flip and cook the other side for 1–2 minutes until cooked through.
  6. Cool and cut: transfer to a plate and let cool to lukewarm. For baby-led weaning, offer whole pancake fingers for the toddler to hold. If needed, cut into longer strips or shorter pieces depending on your child’s grasp and chewing ability.
  7. Serve and supervise: always supervise your toddler while eating. Serve plain or with a tiny smear of full-fat plain yogurt on the side for dipping (optional).
Storing options

Keep cooked pancakes in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 48 hours. Reheat until piping hot and then cool to a safe temperature before serving. To freeze: flash-freeze pancakes in a single layer on a tray, then transfer to a freezer bag and store for up to 1 month. Reheat from frozen until hot throughout and cool to serving temperature.

Potential allergies and side effects

Contains egg and oats (oats may contain gluten if not certified gluten-free). Introduce eggs according to your paediatrician’s advice and monitor for any allergic reaction when first offering. Do not give honey to under 12 months. Always cut and present food appropriate to your child’s chewing ability and supervise to reduce choking risk. If your child has a known food allergy or special dietary needs, adapt ingredients accordingly.
